Thirrin Freer Strong-in-the-Arm Lindenshield, Wildcat of the North, Taker of the Hand of Bellorum is the main character of the Icemark Chronicles.
After King Redrought, her father, dies, she becomes queen at the age of 14 and has to defend her country from an invasion from the Polypontian Empire. Later, she also has to fight off another Polypontian invasion and a battle with the phantoms of the 'Dark' during the series.
In the second book of the Icemark Chronicles, Blade Of Fire, it is revealed that Thirrin married Oskan Witchfather and together they have five children: Cressida, Cerdic, Eodred, Medea, and Charlemagne.
Appearance[]
She is tall for her age and probably has the well-built body of a soldier being a warrior herself. She has pale skin, red hair and bright green eyes. She usually dons her training or battle attire, rarely ever wearing a dress.
Personality[]
According to her tutor, she is attentive when she wants to be, clever when she bothers to try and has her father's temper. People who knew her mother claim that Thirrin is her double. She has a great dislike for the lessons taught by her tutor and instead likes galloping through the expansive lands of her kingdom, hunting, training and war.
She almost always radiates confidence and takes her position as a princess and heir to the throne very seriously and does not tolerate it when people cross her limit and has no problem voicing her disdain. She absolutely does not like to be looked down upon and demands to be treated with utmost respect and has immense pride. However, this does not mean she is a snobby, spoilt royal, on the contrary, she is a very kind and caring person.
She also happens to display a very childlike and playful side when around the people she is particularly fond of, completely forgetting about her "princess etiquettes and mannerisms" that one would expect her to display which is seen as very endearing. She is also very boisterous when she is hanging out with the soldiers while training, hunting etc. She can also be rather shy, especially around Oskan when she had recently made acquaintance with him. She often tries her best to hide all these "un-princess" like personalities with her "princess mode".
Skills and abilities[]
- Fighting prowess: She is a formidable fighter. She is skilled when it comes to using most weapons, being able to lift heavy axes and perfectly throw it at her targets and being able to fight strong and enormous foes with spears and other weapons while controlling her horse and holding a shield at the same time. Her father King Redrought, is proud of her skills and all the soldiers acknowledge her skill and power and agree she is one of the best. She was said to be almost as good as veteran soldiers from a very young age itself.
- Equestrian skills: She is as good at horse riding as one of the best trained soldiers.
- Intelligence: She is shrewd and very clever, especially when it comes to the topics she is interested in.
- Charm: She is very good at convincing people. Though she has a fiery nature, she impresses most with that fire and makes others want to help her and follow her lead.
Trivia[]
- Thirrin was based off of Stuart Hill's sister, Kathleen, that had died from Leukaemia. Thirrin's strong, dedicated personality came from his sister.[1]
